30th July

Greetings folks,

When I used to play down at the then Curry Family Hotel (Now the Gem Bar) with the Forefathers (now the Happy Hour Band) on friday nights they seemed to sell as many plasma screen TVs as they did beers across the bar sometimes. A curious piece of cross marketing that nobody seemed to mind. It was always a good time as long as no-one spoke about Chopper's taste for wearing scuba diving booties to the pub. It was here that Rog and Amos locked in that kick drum and bass thing that still makes me a little woozy. With this in mind it's time for a quick game of “Who's Aged Well?” while we check out this bunch of wipper snappers!

This Sunday, because they just bought a new old piano and for the goodness sake of it all, Amos, Rog, Stevie, Garrett and Myself are gonna squeeze into the corner at the place we now know and love as The Gem Bar,Dining Room,Tax Haven ,Pool Hall and Stadium for two sets of bar room  balladry from 7pm. We'd love you to enjoy us enjoying your company.

23rd July

Greetings folks,

The owners of  my local milk bar were East Timorese. On the weekend they packed up and left.

In 2004 I went to Timor Leste for their second Independence Day.The trip changed my life. In Timor I heard stories that would be inappropriate to retell here.

Peter Garret was there right before he announced that he was joining the Labour Party. Paul Kelly was there and when the mixer didn't show up I was left saying "Good afternoon Mr. Kelly, can you tell me how to turn this thing on?”

Near Bakau, we played a show on the back of two dozen forty four gallon drums to four thousand people who had never seen amplified music under lights. We must have looked like martians landing.

I also came across brilliant humoured and humble people.I'm not flogging any particular charity here. This video by Jorge de Araujo has a song of mine on it. I wish I'd given a copy to the people from the local Milk Bar. I hope I get back there some day... to East Timor not the Milk Bar.

16th July

Salutations,

This week for your bemusement, folks I thought I would give you a peak at another project I have been involved with over the passed twelve months. The Wilson Pickers was the idea of one Andrew Morris who is a brilliant Queenslander who formed a band with three blokes from Bris vegas and Two blokes from Melbourne.Genius! We have a record coming out through ABC in October and will be playing Tamworthin January...which won't be strange or funny at all.

LITTLE OLD MAN

Anyways ... Enjoy the Wilson Pickers live from our H.Q. in the Land of the Powerful Owl. Speaking of live... Catch Me and the Happy Hour band live at the East here real soon.

Cheers,

Sime

11th July

G'day there,

Sime at the East Brunswick 4th July

My friend Dave just returned from the "united" Kingdom where he saw Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band play a three hour set at Cardiff.  Here's me thinking me and the boys did well last Friday at the East here in balmy Melbourne to crank out an hour and fifty minutes.

What fun was had though Ladies and Gentlemen. Thanks to those who were able to come out and support Matt Walker, Suzzanah Espie, Me and the boys.

Suzannah Espie and the Last word         Matt Walker

Sime Nugent and Angie Hart          Steveie Heskth

For the record we did break the pub record for gig finishing after bar closure.So...thanks also to oh so patient security for the long night of hi-fidelity fun.

Over the next few weeks we will be preparing some of the music for exclusive release right here folks. It's then that interstate, overseas friends will be able to hear some of the music.

Garrett Costigan         The Grand Mr Roger

Sime Nugent          Sime Nugent

It was quite special to have Angie Hart up to re-interpret "Into The Trees" and Matt Walker tore a new chorus in "How do You Sleep at night".The reality of the band's gruelling fitness regimes mean that I can't travel with them too often.

What we are hoping is that right here in Simeber space (sorry) you will be able to catch alot of what goes on. I am proud of my boys. They really do make pretty noise together.

Cheers,

Sime

Also thanks to Tim Chuma for the pictures if you would like see bigger and better ones Click Here
